In the manga, the Golden Crystal is Mamoru's crystal and is said to have the same power as Usagi's Silver Crystal. Through the story of the Golden Crystal, we learn that in the Silver Millenium, Serenity and Endymion shared the same power, the same soul, and the same mission: protecting the Earth. This bond between the two has transcended time as Usagi and Mamoru still share the same dream: to protect the Earth together. Also, this part of the manga once again shows Mamoru's uncertainty about his own worth, as he has doubts that the Golden Crystal resides within him. When Usagi convinces Mamoru that he does hold great power, she effectively melts the seal of the Golden Crystal and helps Mamoru to release his true power. On the other hand, the Golden Crystal in the anime has almost no similarities with its manga counterpart. In the anime, it is never mentioned that the Golden Crystal is Mamoru's crystal, and viewers are told that it is an "energy amplification device," as Nehelenia says. Furthermore, Chibi Moon and Sailor Moon are the ones who finally use the Golden Crystal, with the help of the beautiful dreams of the people, to defeat Nehelenia. While Chibiusa took the spotlight, Mamoru was still laying helplessly in bed. While manga Mamoru's power was greatly emphasized as he and Usagi raised their crystals and rid the Earth of darkness, anime Mamoru was portrayed as weak and generally useless in the fight against Nehelenia. THINGS TO NOTE IN THE MANGA: 'Bunny' = 'Usa' 'Darien' = 'Mamo-chan' 'Nephrenia' = 'Nehelenia/Neherenia' MANGA SCENARIO: Act 40 in this comparison starts right after the end of the previous comparison, in which Usagi wakes up from her dream to find that both she and Mamoru have been taken to Elysion by Helios. IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES: In the anime, the Golden Crystal is the horn on Helios' head, while in the manga, the crystal is sealed within Mamoru. In the manga, the Golden Crystal is not an "energy amplification device" that depends on the power of beautiful dreams. It is the source of Mamoru's power, which is equivalent to that of the Silver Crystal. The background music during the manga section is "Anniversary Piano Concerto in C Minor" by Yoshiki.
